Employers support students with their Next Steps
Over the academic year 2017/18, Bromley EBP has delivered a series of employability events for young people in partnership with our local and national employers. Over 350 young people from local sixth form, who have indicated they do not intend to go onto University when they finish their studies, attended the sessions. The aim of each event was to expose young people to a range of employers who were able to help them improve their employability skills and their transition to the workplace when they finish school.
Each event had a bespoke programme offering the students key note speakers and inter-active speed networking sessions. There was also the opportunity for the young people to have a 1:1 mock interview with an experienced interviewer. We were lucky to have the support of employers from a range of sectors as well as community volunteers – many of who attended a number of events throughout the year. Our employer partners were generous with their time by providing this valuable support and it gave them the chance to engage with local young people who will be the workforce of the future.
Feedback from the young people confirmed they had benefitted from meeting with the employers and found the events very useful and informative in helping with their future career path decisions. The employers were very impressed with how ‘switched on’ the students were and pleased with their enthusiasm to engage. We are planning to deliver similar sessions next academic year.
