Special Next Steps Event – 8th February 2019
Bromley EBP's employer partners supported an event on 8th February at the Central Library in Bromley. This session was targeted at young people referred to us from a range of LBB support agencies and other settings, who may have specific challenges accessing employment.
33 young people from Glebe School, Bromley Beacon Academy, Bromley Virtual School and the Home & Hospital Tuition Service came along to meet our local and national business partners who helped them be better prepared for their transition to the world of work.
An 18 year old man from Leaving Care, who has been very hard to engage and out of main stream education since the age of 14, came along and enjoyed meeting the employers. This helped him think more about his communication and presentation skills and also boosted his confidence and motivation. At the event he registered with the Building Hope Academy and, after he completed a 2 week introductory session, he has progressed onto the 12 week course with the potential of an apprenticeship at the end.
Another young man, working with colleagues from the Youth Offending Service, found the opportunity to network with relevant organisations and various professionals a massive boost to his confidence. He also secured a place on a London Construction Academy course and was offered the possibility of work experience with one of the employers at the event.
Our thanks go to our employers and community volunteers who supported the event including Bell Group, FM Conway, LSEC, Mytime Active, Specac and Waterman Group.
