Bromley Students take the Next Steps!

On Friday 6th February, 60 sixth form students from Kemnal Technology College and Coopers School attended the Next Steps conference at Bromley Central Library. The aim of the event, which is part of the Bromley Youth Employment Scheme, was to provide young people with an insight into employers’ expectations in the workplace, and the type of job opportunities available to them when they finish their studies.

A range of local and national employers were there to support the young people with their future transition into employment. The session included presentations on the benefits of working in the construction and financial industries. CITB’s presentation on the construction industry was very engaging and Metro Bank gave an interesting presentation on how students can make the most of themselves in the job market. Bromley College explained the benefits of apprenticeships and Adecco spoke about shortage areas in employment. As well as this, a series of ‘speed networking’ sessions enabled students to ask employers specific questions about working in their industry.

Teachers, students and employers alike found the event extremely well-run and useful. Paul Sikora, Director of Careers and Guidance at Coopers School said it was “a stimulating and useful morning” and that there were “loads of ideas and points of action for the students to follow up”. Nicola Rush from Adecco said that it was “great to see so many driven and passionate young people coming into the workforce”. The majority of students remarked that the event was very useful and will help them greatly when they are deciding their next steps.

Bromley EBP would like to thank Adecco, Bromley College, Capita Asset Services, Chicane School of Motoring, CITB, International Leisure Management, Jane Rogers PR, Metro Bank, Skanska, Thackray Williams and all of the volunteers that supported the event. We would also like to acknowledge that FLR Spectron kindly sponsored the refreshments.
