Employers
If you are an employer interested in providing work experience placements, then we want to hear from you! We can offer advice and guidance on how to make placements successful, and what will work best for your business.
There is compelling evidence that when young people gain insights into the world of work whilst still at school, they can expect to do better in their later working lives.
The benefits to employers of offering work experience include:
- raising your profile with students, parents/carers and teachers
- providing opportunities for staff development
- looking at your business from a new, young perspective
- capitalising on young people's ideas and skills, particularly in IT and using social media
- influencing potential new recruits
The benefits to young people of work experience include:
- learn new skills and experience a professional work environment
- influence future career choices
- improve confidence, motivation and resilience
Work experience placements can be flexible in duration and tailored according to the opportunity. Placements can be for 1 or 2 weeks, or a few days or hours. Students accepted onto our Flexible Learning Programme have the opportunity to spend 1 or 2 days per week with an employer over a longer period of time and up to an academic year.
Students on work experience are not paid and you are not required to provide any special training, just guidance and the benefit of your experience. We take care of all the necessary paperwork and arrangements. However, to offer a work experience placement, you will need to have Employers Liability Insurance. If you're new to offering work experience, then a curtesy call to your insurance provider is all that is needed. Your insurance premium will not be affected.
